A Classic Salad

This is perhaps the most basic you can get in a salad, but to be honest, it’s also my favorite salad. Adding anything else to a salad usually just makes it too complicated. I especially love eating this after just having stuffed myself full of pasta – it really helps reduce that bloated feeling you get after eating too much.

Ingredients (serves 1)

  • a head of butter lettuce
  • 1/2 onion
  • handful fresh basil
  • plenty of olive oil
  • salt
  • pepper
  • tomatoes (optional)
  • olives (optional)

Preparation (5 minutes)

Shred the lettuce, chop up the basil, and toss it all in a bowl. Chop the onions into very thin slices, and add that to the bowl. If you want, chop up a tomato and a couple of olives and add that as well. Cover with a generous amount of olive oil, salt, and a little bit of pepper. Mix it all together and it’s ready.
